Chi.mp the new kid on the block, similar to Telnic concept but varies from implementation and also similar to .name but in my opinion it’s targeting different target group all together. By the way if you’re wondering, where does .MP hails from, check here on IANA DB or on Google map.
And oh yeah, Chi.mp is free. For now, maybe 2 years later it might not, but we’ll see.
Telnic has a great idea and it’s execution i think is great and it appeals to individuals or organization who wants their “Internet Namecard” in a form of a domain name. Simply accessible from all devices that is capable to resolve domain name and display HTML. Intergration into Outlook, Windows Mobile Devices and Blackberry is ready. Cool.
But what about for IPhone users?
As for Chi.mp, it offers a different kind of service albeit having the same objectives but it does a bit more than just your “Internet Namecard”. It allows you to gather all your social networking echoes and allows it to vibrate on your site. Imagine a Facebook profile that interoperates with other broadcasting news streams from Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, MySpace, and the list goes on. Check out tony.mp for a feel how it looks like.
Blame on the sudden surge of social networking and Web 2.0 applications, if you want but managing tons user accounts on various web application is a headache and normally users would just use the same username and password for all their web accounts.
By using OpenID, Chi.mp managed to get all your Web 2.0 application accounts together and manage it on one single site. Read here on Chi.mp’s website to find out more.
Read here and here for more about OpenID. Quite a good read. Would dig in deeper but then again, this is not a technology blog so i’ll just stop here.
Ever since humans discovered the Internet ,identity has always been an stigmata. We use to have profiles in social networking site but soon, we’ll have domain names as our identity. Again. .name came in and fail, but .tel and chi.mp would most likely last longer.
I’m seriously wondering why .name didn’t think of this first, it might have just save them.
I’m not sure how they would resolve popular names such as artist, actors ,etc (You get my drift). I’m sure a lot of domainers would just love to get their hands on a high traffic name.
By the way, what are you waiting for? Go sign up for a free name or click here if you want to get your trademark name.
There are several sites you might want to read Webmonkey and Domainpulse.com
