ICANN’s 33rd meeting was a great event and what’s even more intense was heavily debated topics lurking around draft RFP applicant guidebook for the upcoming gTLDs.
It has been a tiring, enduring but yet a pleasant and productive week for RegistryASP team.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tanzanica and Stacy from the ICANN organizing committee for making this meeting a successful one.
There are a few issue that i would like to share that took place during ICANN:-
- Interviews by Domaine.fr uploaded on ICANN’s Cairo website (Good work Christian)
- Photos on Flickr taken in Cairo
- A post that claims ICANN is defending Verisign and Network Solutions
- Icannwiki’s newsletter which contains a ton of information. It was distributed heavily throughout the ICANN conference. Fantastic information and good work Chris, for compiling all the issues.
- There might be an extension for public comment period of the draft RFP which could mean, the entire gTLD schedule might be delayed.
- There are initiatives to ease community TLDs which don’t have the proper financial backing (read USD75,000 per year to ICANN is a killer).
- Obama got elected as President of the United State and how does that affect the domain name industry?
The next ICANN’s meeting will be at Mexico city from 1st March - 6th March 2009 and the subsequent meeting will be held at Sydney, Australia and Seoul, Korea. At least after Mexico, we don’t need to hop on a jet and fly to the other side of the globe.
We’ll meet again in Mexico City.
Till then. Take care.
